Arnold Palmer Invitational

No pictures, folks! Cameras not allowed! If you are watching the tournament on tv, you are getting a good "picture" of what we are enjoying. Beautiful weather! Seeing so many well-known golfers play is exciting. The entire event is well planned/organized. Today Dick and I were at Universal Studios at 7:45 am for shuttle to Bay Hill Golf Course. We saw Tiger and several other big names begin play at hole #1 or #10. Then we went back to our favorite spot on hole #7 where we can watch hole #6, #7, and #8.
Notable notables:
  • extremely well organized event;
  • met a Calvin alumni, Jim Kool, watching tourney also;
  • we saw Arnie Palmer and Yogi Berra on the first day when amateurs were playing with pros . . . that was really moving to see those two old timers playing golf - great men!
  • pros have same stuggle as all golfers - putting that little ball in a little hole;
  • noticeable difference between Wednesday's play (w/amateurs) and Thursday's play - most balls landed on the green at hole #7 whereas the day before the balls were scattered in "rough";
  • golf is a gentle game - no noise, no spitting, no nasty words - politeness rules the event;
  • politeness is a possibility at a sporting event;
  • you know when "big names" are around based on large crowds who following (Tiger, Phil Mickelson, and Fred Couples) - largest crowds follow their favorite from hole to hole, running from one hole to another;
  • golfers are taller than they appear on tv;
  • amazing how quiet everyone becomes when pros are on the greens;
  • the concentration of these professionals is amazing.

  1. Hey, I'm glad you guys got to see Tiger. I just saw today the tourney is going to be on the tele this Sat. Boy Dad, do I have a good book for you when you get back, "Song yet Sung" by James McBride. It's about the secret code used by those involved in the Underground Railroad- pre Civil War.
