Today Dick and I biked to the marina, an exotic name for a waterfront that is hardly a marina. We observed for the first time 6 wild turkeys - something new - always exciting! As we continued, we spotted the usual . . . a great blue heron guarding her waterway, an egret looking for breakfast, Annie the anhinga posted on her perch to protect her territory, the strange-looking woodstork who is so unattractive and yet beautiful to observe flying, the ever-present and teasing northern mockingbird (the sparrow of Florida), and a variety of warblers that are beginning their migration. So many birds that are beautiful and yet too quickly become familiar and ordinary. We wish not to take any of these creatures for granted in our mind's eye so we always take note of each and extend greetings - even if it is just to name them. Then . . . golfing and no birdies to be had . . . we don't want that to become commonplace either, so practice, practice, practice - keeping hope alive . . . Later . . . stay safe and warm.
